Gastech 2026: at the heart of the conversations shaping tomorrow’s energy infrastructure
From 14 to 17 September 2026, Bangkok hosted one of the world’s leading energy industry gatherings: Gastech 2026. Over four days, energy operators, project developers, EPC contractors, engineering companies, technology providers, investors and policymakers came together to exchange perspectives and prepare the next generation of energy infrastructure.
For Geocean, attending Gastech was about far more than visibility. It was first and foremost an opportunity to engage directly with the organisations designing, developing and delivering future offshore and nearshore energy projects.
David Gomis, Development & Tender Manager, and Alexandre Leroy, Project Manager, represented Geocean in Bangkok, meeting clients, partners and industry stakeholders to discuss market perspectives, emerging needs and projects taking shape across different regions of the world.
Gastech: where market trends become projects
The 2026 edition once again demonstrated Gastech’s particular position within the global energy ecosystem. The event recorded 59,468 attendees from more than 150 countries. According to the organisers, an estimated US$40 billion in memoranda of understanding, supply agreements and investment commitments were announced or progressed during the event. National Law Review
Beyond the figures, this provides a clear indication of what Gastech represents. Discussions are not limited to technologies or long-term market trends. They concern investment decisions, new production capacity, supply chains and the infrastructure that will ultimately need to be engineered and built.
This year’s discussions covered natural gas and LNG, energy security and resilience, low-carbon solutions, hydrogen, shipping and marine, electrification and the changing energy requirements created by the rapid development of AI. The Technical & Commercial Conference also featured dedicated EPC & Gas Processing and Shipping & Marine programmes. Gastech Exhibition & Conference 2026
For Geocean, these topics sit directly within a highly relevant business environment.
Being present where projects begin to take shape
For a marine contractor, much of the value of an event such as Gastech lies upstream of the tendering process.
An offshore or nearshore gas terminal is not simply a piece of equipment installed at sea. Its development requires the early integration of site constraints, marine conditions, interfaces with onshore facilities, mooring systems, risers, subsea structures, pipelines and complex shore crossings.
This sea-to-shore interface is precisely where Geocean’s expertise is focused.
Ahead of Gastech, Geocean deliberately highlighted this proposition: supporting offshore and nearshore gas terminal developments from concept and feasibility studies through to EPCI delivery, with capabilities covering offshore mooring systems, flexible risers and umbilicals, subsea structures, gas pipelines and complex shore approaches. Attending Gastech therefore provides an opportunity to connect this technical expertise with real market requirements — in some cases several years before a project reaches execution.
Listening before proposing
The value of these meetings goes well beyond commercial prospecting.
For Geocean, they offer an opportunity to understand operators’ and developers’ priorities more clearly: project maturity, technical constraints, delivery strategy, interfaces, schedules and emerging requirements.
They also create opportunities for dialogue with engineering companies, technology partners and EPC contractors involved at different stages of project development.
This proximity to the market is critical. In complex offshore infrastructure, the most appropriate solution is highly dependent on local conditions. Two terminals serving a similar purpose may require very different installation concepts depending on bathymetry, metocean conditions, shoreline characteristics, existing infrastructure and environmental constraints.
Being involved early enough to understand these parameters can therefore play an important role in reducing project risk and defining a robust execution strategy.
LNG remains central, but the energy landscape is broadening
Gastech 2026 also demonstrated how the traditional boundaries of the energy industry continue to evolve.
LNG remains central to many projects and to ongoing energy security discussions. Conference sessions in Bangkok addressed demand realities, investment requirements, long-term contracting and the infrastructure needed to support growing energy requirements. LinkedIn
At the same time, conversations increasingly extend to other value chains, including CO₂, hydrogen and emerging low-carbon energy solutions.
This evolution matters for Geocean. The molecules may change, but many of the marine challenges remain: connecting offshore infrastructure to shore, designing systems adapted to specific site conditions, managing multiple interfaces and delivering installations safely in complex marine environments.
Expertise developed over decades in offshore and nearshore infrastructure can therefore provide a strong foundation for supporting the development of new energy value chains.
Bangkok: a strategic location for the global energy market
Hosting Gastech in Bangkok added another dimension to the 2026 edition.
In the run-up to the event, Gastech repeatedly highlighted Asia’s growing importance in global energy demand and the need for reliable, affordable and resilient energy systems across the region. LinkedIn
For a company delivering projects internationally, being present in Asia provides an opportunity to reinforce existing relationships, identify emerging developments and deepen its understanding of regional market dynamics.
Gastech therefore supports a long-term business development approach: engaging early, understanding requirements before they become tender specifications, and building the relationships required to develop the right technical solution.
